Funds Approved for The Advance Disinfection Facilities at Stonecutters Island Sewage Treatment Works
Funding for the provision of advance disinfection facilities at Stonecutters Island Sewage Treatment Works (SCISTW) was approved by LegCo's Finance Committee on 11 January 2008. The disinfection facilities, scheduled for completion in 2009, are an important part of the works under Stage 2A of the Harbour Area Treatment Scheme (HATS) which involves constructing a deep sewage tunnel network connecting the northern and western shores of Hong Kong Island to SCISTW, expansion and upgrading works at SCISTW together with the installation of further disinfection facilities, and the upgrading of the associated preliminary treatment works. Upon completion of HATS Stage 2A and other sewerage improvement projects in the area, water quality in Victoria Harbour and at the Tsuen Wan beaches will be further improved.
